The Best Places for Family Photos in South Lake Tahoe
One of the best things about Lake Tahoe is that no two photo sessions have to look the same. From sandy beaches to towering pines and mountain overlooks, there’s a perfect location for every family.
There are so many beautiful spots around Tahoe it’s hard to go wrong picking a location for your family photos. There are a few things you should consider when deciding on a location.
Your desired scenery. Do you like the open space of the beach? The cozy adventurous vibes of a trail through the woods? The whimsical magic of a meadow of wild flowers?
Time of year. In the fall you can get the changing leaves, in the spring and early summer you’ll have wild flowers, in the winter there will be snow. The seasons in Tahoe can add a little something special to the location you choose.
Accessibility for grandparents and children. The walking distance to the location from parking, if the paths are paved or trails, and the general terrain should all be considered.
Popularity of a location. There are some epic view points that make for great photo backdrops, but that also makes them popular and crowded in the high seasons.
After taking all these things into account here are some of my favorite locations for family photos in South Lake Tahoe.
Nevada Beach
It’s a large wide beach with plenty of space to run around. There are great mountain views and you are right on the lake. Its perfect for playful and fun family sessions with young kids.
Tallac Historic Area
This location has a great variety of scenery in one location, you can walk from the forest trails to historic buildings to the lake front and beach. It’s great for large family or anyone who loves variety.
Fallen Leaf Lake
If you are looking for a peaceful atmosphere with the mountain, forrest, and lake views Fallen Leaf Lake is great. There are trails to explore and secluded beaches to put your feet in the water, it great for families who want their shoot to feel like an adventure.
Johnson, Bijou, or Cathedral Road Meadows
Meadows give a dreamy and whimsical vibe to shoot. There’s plenty of space for the kids to run around and explore and you still get some great mountain views as well. These meadow are perfect for families with kids who are curious and love to explore.
Choosing your perfect location:
If you love the water and don’t mind if the kids get a little wet = Nevada Beach or Fallen Leaf Lake
If you want a little adventure and a lot of variety in your photos = Fallen Leaf Lake or Tallac Historic Area
If you are looking for quiet nature and peaceful vibes = Johnson, Bijou, or Cathedral Road Meadows
The mountains and the lake create the backdrop, but it’s your family’s connection that makes the photos unforgettable.
Whether you’re visiting South Lake Tahoe or lucky enough to be local, I’d love to help you chose a location that fits your family and tells your story.
